Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka Shankar is a British-American sitar player and music artist. She was among the youngest and first female to win a British House of Commons Shield she's had Nine Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to perform live in concert and act as a host at the awards ceremony. Anoushka is the emerging star of Indian sitar. She is the student and daughter of Ravi Shankar. She was born 1982 in London. The first few years of her life were split between London and New Delhi. Her debut concert was on stage in New Delhi at the tender age of thirteen. Then the same year, in Encinitas CA she attended high school and graduated with distinction in 1999. Anouskha's career as a musician and performer is quite impressive, in spite of her youth. Since a while, she has been performing regularly with her father. She made Anourag her first album solo in 1998. The Grammy-nominated Live at Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. Her career on stage is broad as she's been in every one of the major stages in the world. Anoushka Shankar's career is not limited to performing in music. Bapi the Love of My Live, a picture-biography that is dedicating to her dad Ravi Shankar was published in 2002. In 2003, she was a Bharat Nathyam young dancer Dance Like a Man. Anoushka is still progressing on her path and there will be many more things to come from this talented lady. Anoushka lived a long her time in London and Delhi in her early years. After that, she moved to California to finish high school. From the age of nine she began studying music under her father, who made her debut with the sitar 4 years later during his 75th birthday celebration in Delhi. Her father traveled around the globe with her, and she gained many experience. While still in her teens, Anoushka performed at Carnegie Hall in Peter Gabriel's WOMAD concert. The House of Commons Shield was awarded in her honor from the British Parliament for being the top Asian Arts musician. She is the only female and the youngest winner of the prize.
